Is ABS hard to print?
Yes, honestly. It shrinks as it cools, so prints lift and crack in open air. It wants a hot bed, still air, and ideally an enclosure (a box around the printer that traps warmth). Treat it as a third or fourth material, not a first.
What temperature does ABS print at?
230-260 °C at the nozzle and 90-110 °C on the bed. The hot bed is not optional; it is what keeps corners pinned down.
What about the fumes?
Real. Print it in a ventilated room or a filtered enclosure, never a closed bedroom. If that rules it out for you, PETG covers many of the same jobs without the smell.
Why bother, then?
Heat. PLA softens around 55 °C and PETG around 70 °C, while ABS keeps its shape up toward 95 °C. Parts near electronics, appliances, or a baking-hot attic are ABS territory. If the part also lives in sunlight, step up to ASA instead.
