ASA
The outdoor specialist · 110 filaments
DifficultWhy: ABS variant with real UV resistance. Best for outdoor parts in direct sun. Needs an enclosure.
ASA, in plain words
What is ASA for?
Outside. It keeps its color and toughness in direct sun, where PLA slumps and ABS slowly yellows. Planters, brackets, signs, and fixtures that stay on the porch year-round are ASA jobs.
What temperature does ASA print at?
240-260 °C at the nozzle with a 90-110 °C bed, and box it in: like ABS, it warps in moving air. Polymaker's guidance says even a cardboard box around an open printer cuts warping noticeably.
Is ASA beginner-friendly?
No. Think of it as ABS with sunscreen: same enclosure wishes, same hot bed, same ventilation rule (the fumes are irritating). Get comfortable with PETG first.
ASA or PETG for outdoor prints?
PETG is the easy start and shrugs off rain and cold. ASA is the long-haul answer for direct sun. If the part will bake on a south-facing wall for years, spend the extra on ASA.
